The Great Church
Once the dominant religion among all four Great Races, the Great Church is still held dear to Elves, Dragons, and many of its traditions live on in folk legend among Men and Dwarves.
The Great Church describes 7 gods and goddesses--their number, name, and identity varies from one racial interpretation to the next, but their core archetypal qualities are constant.
Among adherents of The Church of the One God, the gods of the Great Church are often referred to as "The Old Gods".
The Mother
Goddess of life, motherhood, fertility, growth, renewal, and familial love.
The Mother is foremost in every cultural adaptation of the pantheon, and has many similar traits.
Her Names
- Imuen (Man): Mother of the original seven kings, and she who bequeathed them their swords, built by the Maker.
- Lorien (Elf): Mother of the dragons and the elves, who charged the elven race with protecting and preserving all life in her world.
- Amann (Dwarf): Wife of the Maker, caretaker of the pantheon, and goddess of the hearth. Also the warrior god.
- Devina (Dragon): Goddess of the sky, freedom, and flight. Also the Lover.
The Maker
God of creativity, the forge, engineering, planning, and civilization.
His Names
- Albur (Man): Father of the human race, the One King who ruled before the Seven, and the Future King.
- Ober (Elf): Wayward brother of Lorien, who possesses cleverness instead of wisdom, creator of the giants and the dwarves.
- Uldum (Dwarf): Creator of the dwarven race, fount of honor and glory, god of wisdom and knowledge. (Also the Sage)
- Akhenar (Dragon): God of the earth, patron of the Wyrms, enemy of goodness.
The Sage
God of knowledge, lore, and magic.
His Names
- Vallas (Man): Elder spirit, kin to Imuen, who appears as a man young in body but old in spirit.
- Valien (Elf): Consort of Lorien, wisest of men, a philosopher god.
- Uldum (Dwarf): God of the Earth and the Deep, keeper of its secrets.
- Kurenar (Dragon): God of time and memories.
The Warrior
Goddess of war, honor, battle, skill at arms, victory, etc.
Her Names
- Hellas (Man): Goddess of battle, paladins, daughter of Vallas; she defeated the corrupt god Karthas, once the god of war.
- Almekia (Elf): Warrior goddess, supreme huntress, goddess of the moon.
- Amann (Dwarf): Goddess of battle, an aspect of the Mother goddess, whose wrath is roused by threats to her children.
- Ashkala (Dragon): Goddess of fire, consort of Akhenar, corrupter of souls.
The Lover
Goddess of love, art, song, and joy.
Her Names
- Anwen (Man): A simple and fair goddess, the chivalric ideal of a fair maiden.
- Sylwen (Elf): A youthful and energetic goddess, known for her mischievous pairings, somewhat like Cupid.
- Tarya (Dwarf): A graceful maiden, quiet and humble, consort of the Gatekeeper. Also The Sufferer.
- Devina (Dragon): The mother goddess, also the ideal expression of love in draconic culture.
The Sufferer
Goddess of mercy, forgiveness, compassion; he who takes the pain of others unto himself.
Her Names
- Morrowyn (Man): A pure and benevolent character, free of sin, who suffers for others so they will not have to. Adapted from the elven goddess MoroÃn.
- Moroín (Elf): A lonesome and sorrowful goddess, the embodiment of winter.
- Tarya (Dwarf): She who is the lover is also the weeping mother, who soothes fallen warriors, and guides the dead to the Gatekeeper.
- Sanakhti (Dragon): A very powerful figure in the age since The Great Dragonblood, a source of terrible grief for all dragons.
The Gatekeeper
Guardian of the dead, and the living; he who stands on the bridge between life and death, who guards the gate that must ever be guarded.
His Names
- Drakkis (Man): The evil-aligned lord of the underworld
- Annar (Elf): The only elven god depicted as a Dark Elf. He is, as one would expect, dark and brooding.
- Drogun (Dwarf): A grim warrior, who guards the only gate between the worlds of the living and dead. Often prayed to in hopeless battles and last stands.
- Ankhar (Dragon): An angelic figure, a beacon of light in the Shadowfell, served by those who pass to guard the world of the living against the dead.
